Cat Food Reviews -- Homemade Cat Food Recipes

Respect Your Cat Day is just around the bend and Samantha is mighty depressed. Her cat is suffering from renal problems and she cannot think of home made cat food recipes to treat her cat on the day. I offered to help her and while surfing the Internet, I came across this unique cat recipe for cats suffering from diabetes and kidney problems.

Ingredients:
1 teaspoon shredded carrot (if you substitute other vegetables, avoid the ones with a lot of natural sugars)
1 tablespoon minced, cooked green beans
1 egg
1 tablespoon olive oil (good for preventing hair balls and constipation - common to diabetics)
2 tablespoons baked chicken breast (no skin) minced
1/3 cup cooked brown rice (unrefined; wild rice is good)

How to Make
Mix all of the ingredients thoroughly with a wooden spoon or in a blender/food processor. Get the rice mixed in well so that it can’t be picked out.
(Diabetics need fiber and cats with kidney failure problems need to limit their protein intake so this serves two purposes.)
Cook in a small Pyrex skillet over low heat, stirring and “chopping” constantly, until the egg is at least soft-set but done.
Use air-tight containers, such as Tupperware, Rubbermaid, or Zip-Lock baggies for refrigeration. Use within 36 hours (refrigerated). Freeze in Zip-Lock baggies and thaw and warm in boiling water simultaneously.

My friends joined me in our celebration with their pets. We had a short drive to Nantasket Beach -- a beautiful place just within a stone's throw distance from Boston. We were planning to have our trip to Singing beach in Manchester -by-the-sea. But Jess told me that there's no public parking available and reaching there would be expensive. Interesting German Shepherd Dog Facts: Myspace Comments

I am thinking of keeping a pet dog too. They can be a better companion than human beings, can give more love than anyone else and can be my most obedient friend. I have not decided which breed I should buy but my dog-lover aunt suggested me to have a German Shepherd. I was thinking of buying an Alsatian. As I revealed my plan, my ignorance also came into light. My aunt whacked me up "GSD and Alsatians are the same".

Then she explained me the history. At the end of World War 1, the German Shepherd Dog got a new name from the British as anything related to German was not favored in UK. So, the breed got a new name "Alsatian Wolf Dog". The term Alsatian is after the disputed border area ALSACE -- LORRAINE in North East France. This region was a disputed region between France and Germany and in the 17th century it was annexed by France. Later on, the name was shortened and the breed came to be known as only Alsatians. It was in 1977, that the term "German Shepherd Dog" was again made popular after number of campaigns by the lovers of this breed.
Another interesting fact about the breed is that it is also known as Deutscher Schäferhund

My aunt is busy making some special dishes for her Jenny. I tell you, the pet spaniel just loves to taste some new things at least once a week and waits for the weekend. On this week, while I was with Aunt Susan she was making some special dog biscuit with chicken liver. I got the recipe and here it is for all of you.

Ingredients:

Whole wheat flour -- 4 cups
Chicken liver (shredded) -- 100 gms
Eggs -- 2 (large size)
Milk -- 1 full cup
Vegetable oil -- 1/2 Teaspoon full
Water -- 1 cup

Method:

Put all the ingredients together
Keep the mixture into the mixture grinder and mix it well for five minutes
Bake it for 40 minutes at 325 degree.
Take it out, keep it covered and let it cool down to room temperature
It will become hard -- like dog biscuit.
Break it and give it to your furry family member.

Christmas is the time for reunion and parties. In the midst of all the hustle and bustle, we often tend to spend lesser time with our canine friends. But it is more important to keep a watch on them as there are chances of mishaps during the holiday celebrations. While putting up the Christmas decorations or making food for the Christmas party, one should keep in mind about the safety of the pets of the house. Here are some Christmas safety tips for pets :

Don't use tinsel/streamers/artificial snow as these are fatal for your pets if they put it in their mouth. It's better not to put any popcorn or other edible stuff on the tree that will attract the attention of your pet.
It's better not to put any chemical in the water of the tree. Chemicals might keep the tree fresh, but it is dangerous for your pet's health. Also one has to keep a close watch to prevent the pet in drinking water under the tree as the water is usually dirty.
Do not indulge the pet with rich Christmas treats or chocolates.
If relatives and friends are visiting your house, then put your pet in a safe, secured place with lots of food and water so that they do not get bored. Also, one has to spend quality time with the four-legged family members amidst the busy schedule.

I have counting my days for Christmas! I have completed the shopping and even bought gifts for the pooch of my Aunt Susan. The dogs are like children to my Aunt and it would not have been proper for me not to have given gifts to her "children". I bought funny chew toys for the puppies and a dog bowl for Jenny, the bitch. Cats can sometimes create great nuisance. Of course , dogs are no better and I have the experience of it. But that is to be told some other day.
My neighbor was recounting how her pet pussy cat Ninja made her extremely embarrassed by snatching away the cookies from the hands of her guest when they visited her. On the top of that, Ninja took away the scarf of one guest and climbed up the tree on the garden. It was after lots of requests (read begging) Ninja took pity on the folks and returned it. If you are the owner of a black cat or have any black cat in your store/shelter keep them safely inside the house/shelter. It's better not to sell any black cat during this month as there are people who might buy them for sacrifice.

Candies are like poison for both cats and dogs. So never ever give them candies; no matter how much they show their fondness for them. Also beware of the wrappers, as they can be fatal to your pet.

It's better that your pet dogs and cats do not see the Halloween processions and parties in strange costumes, as they can get agitated seeing weird looking people all around! Also if you want them to be part of these proceedings, you should try to get a clear idea whether your pet will like it or not. Some pets are happy donning the costumes, but some just don't want to be bothered. If you want your pet to wear a mask, it should have big eye holes to let them see properly. In fact, masks are not a good idea for your pet.

If you have an indoor party, then keep the pets safe in another room.

I was still not out of my bed this morning, when my mobile started ringing. As I staggered out of my bed and picked up the call, Aunt Susan's scream pierced my ears. “We have got two babies!” she yelled. At first it did not get into my head what she was talking about. Aunt Susan is a sixty-year old woman, and it seemed bizarre to me that at this age, she was expecting a baby!! “Jenni has given birth to two white pups last night.” Now I realized that she is talking about her pet Spaniel Jenni. Aunt Susan was beaming with happiness as if she has become a new grandma. :) I congratulated her and promised to meet her “grandsons” soon.

Recently my neighbor Jeffrey lost his pet Labrador, Jasper. Jasper was the darling of all of us. For the last twelve years we used to see him every morning at the park with his master. I have never seen such a friendly dog in my whole life. Just cuddle him for a moment and he will be the best friend of you for the rest of the life. There was not a single child in our area who has not played with Jasper. I can understand how painful it is for Jeffrey to cope up with the loss of Jasper.

Hotels starting from the Ritz-Carlton, Hotel Diva and The W Hotel has packages for pets either for grooming, walking or playing and swimming. They're in San Francisco, Sacramento and they're opening up in Sunnyvale this fall. Now why can't they open up in the East Coast?

Londoners Don't Care About Pets!

A survey in UK found that 41% of people London don't care about their pets whereas 68% would be upset if they lost their phone! I thought it didn't read right. The survey was conducted by Car phone Warehouse -- one of the biggest retailers of mobile phones. They did the survey to see how many people would be really upset if they lost their phone and that they would benefit from some sort of a cell phone insurance. The result? People in East London don't really care about their pets!

Chinese Pet MySpace Comment

Great news for our pet friends in China! The municipal government of Beijing - China's capital city - said that it would take in all the stray pets. This service from the city is to take in pets from residents who cannot raise their pets any more. It's also where people can go to place the stray animals they found on streets. Already Beijing has 703,879 registered dogs! You can read more at China Give Home for its Stray Pets.

In order to get all dogs registered and not have stray dogs, the city implemented the policy of "one dog, one family" and the Chinese government is launching a nation wide campaign. That's a good idea.

Maybe it should be applied to cats too because there was a creepy lady around where I used to live that had loads of cats. It was like Halloween everyday in her house!

Tomorrow is Homeless Animals' Day and I really wanted to get the word out there so people know. These animals are abandoned on the streets with no way of surviving and a lot of people have found them and put them in the animal shelters or rescued them. If you want to do something you should check out the Animal Rescue Site. Sometimes natural disasters happen and pets get abandoned, we can't help that. But you can do something so that your pet is not lost and has a chance of getting rescued check out ASPCA's tips on Emergency Pet Preparedness.
